Pine River & Willow Creek Watershed
This landscape, with farms, pastures and woods with cold trout streams (Class 1) running throughout it, lies in Richland County. Broadleaf deciduous forests and agricultural land make up much of the 350 square miles of the Pine River and Willow Creek watersheds. In addition, rare pine and hemlock relicts can be found, harking back to a wetter and colder climate that existed during the Ice Age.
To offer farmers and other landowners an alternative to housing developments and subdivision of farmland, The Driftless Area Conservancy is making the preservation of this scenic, important landscape and its cold water springs and streams a priority conservation area.
