Your Land Legacy
You can contribute to the Conservancy AND develop your own land legacy.
There are various ways of conveying part of your estate to the Conservancy. People have long been familiar with wills in this regard, but a statute passed by the Wisconsin legislature last year provides an additional means of donating real property. This is the Transfer on Death (TOD), which can be done by filling out a form (TOD-110 (PDF 97k)) and having it registered with your county’s Register of Deeds office.
Don’t overlook the possibility of naming the Conservancy as a beneficiary, whether primary or contingent, of a bank account or deposit, or an annuity. A member of the Board of Directors recently deposited papers with the Conservancy naming the organization as a contingent beneficiary. Naming beneficiaries can be done with or without legal help. Some might wish to have legal help for Transfer on Death, but the procedure is very simple.
